Continuing music all night is something very special that can bring magical moments. Because usually the night is a time for silence and sleep, breaking this pattern brings a special concentration and feeling. In my world of Indian classical music nights are often used for big musical festivals: the rst artist would begin playing around 20:00, and after usually four to eight performances the last artist would play around 10:00. Since the ragas, which form the core of Indian music, are bound to a time of day the timing affects the music a lot. The festivals would begin with evening ragas, proceeding to midnight ragas and going all the way to morning ragas.
In rave culture, a similar fenomenon occurs: accompanied by music that is repetitive of nature and brings a feeling of trance audiences travel through the night. This seems to change the feeling completely, from a party to a spiritual collective experience. Nocturne brings together elements from rave music and Indian classical music, travelling through the night with ragas. First the divine early evening raga Saraswati emerges, followed by a sweet late evening raga Hansadhwani. We reach midnight with the king of all ragas, raga Darbari Kanada. Lastly, raga Miya ki Todi emerges, bringing the morning daylight concluding the night.
